NFL Draft 2020: Who is Tua Tagovailoa?

Updated: Feb 6, 2020

One of the top college quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa had decided to skip his senior season and declare for the 2020 NFL Draft. The young quarterback was projected to be in the first round of the draft as well as one of top 3 quarterbacks taken in the draft behind Joe Burrow from LSU and Justin Herbert from Oregon. Tua has been playing football since he was a kid, then continued to play a St. Louis high school in Honolulu, HI and had an amazing career. He threw for 5,515 total passing yards, 57 passing touchdowns, 350 completions, and only 10 interceptions as a starter. His high school career led him to be the 3rd best quarterback recruit and the 22nd ranked high school player in the country. This led him to receiving 17 division 1 college offers and he decided to continue his career at the University of Alabama, the best football school at the time.

Alabama is one of my favorite college football teams, the reason being they were the best for so long. They won several championships in a row and went undefeated for multiple seasons. So seeing one of the top quarterbacks in the 2017 class commit to Alabama made me excited for the future of Alabama football. His career at Alabama was one of the best ever throwing for 7,442 yards and 87 touchdowns, until his fatal injury against Mississippi State. He received a major hip injury that ended his junior season, this made me nervous for his future and Alabama's. He dislocated his hip and spent the rest of the season and more recovering and working to get back in top shape. I was surprised looking at mock drafts however, because he was still projected to go in the first round. I honestly thought that he would stay for his senior season so he could have more to show in his last season, but he decided to declare a few months after his injury. Even though it may not be the best decision for him, I am still excited to see him in the NFL and there are two teams I think he would fit in the best at.

New England Patriots

For a long time now we have seen Tom Brady build a dynasty in New England and he has one 6 Super Bowl Rings and gone to more championship games than I can count. I'm not hating on Tom Brady, he is the goat, but when your seeing the same team with the same players win over and over again it gets annoying. There are numerous rumors that Tom Brady could be signing with a different team in the 2020 season. The Patriots were not what they were this season after Gronk decided to retire. This could be the start of a new dynasty for the New England Patriots and it could be with Tua Tagovailoa as the guy under center. I think Tua could bring something new to the Patriots being that he is a different kind of quarterback than Brady. He is young, physical, and athletic which is the opposite of Brady. With the Patriots gathering new weapons, then maybe a new man in charge of those weapons is needed to bring back the Patriots winning ways.

Miami Dolphins

This is Tua's most likely destination, he has been projected to be the 5th pick going to the Miami Dolphins. I can definitely see this happening because of the many quarterback struggles the Dolphins have had for the past few seasons. I will be honest, the Dolphins have been one of the worst football teams not just because of the lack of wins, but the front office and staff are pathetic. A you-tuber named Stone Wilson played for the Dolphins for 1 season and was almost immediately cut from the team after he was told by there staff and coaches that he didn't have what it takes to be in the NFL. It doesn't matter how bad a player is, it is a coaches job to encourage players not put them down. During the season many members of the staff were replaced and that is when things started to look better. Tua would be the final touch needed to change the Dolphins. He is not only a great player, but a good hard working person who would bring a new culture to the team. I'm not sure what it is, but there is something about Tua being in a Dolphins uniform that just looks right.
